Rosso’s boss, Adriano Goldschmied, also known as the "Godfather of Denim", was impressed by Rosso’s talents and partnered with him to launch Diesel in 1978 in Breganze, Italy. The brand’s popularity exploded in the 90s, and became known for its "Made in Italy" alternative denim, its subversive advertising campaigns, and its edgy rock ’n’ roll utilitarian style.
CNN has credited Diesel as "the first brand to believe truly in the global village and to embrace it with open arms." After acquiring 100% of the company in 1985, Rosso has continued innovating the brand after the turn of the century, launching premium fashion line Diesel Black Gold, homewares and fragrances, and participating in numerous iconic collaborations.
